Sometimes we allow negativity get the better of us. It’s human nature after all. One negative thought or a quick moment of denial can expand like wildfire. The next thing you know, you feel like all your dreams are crushed. It’s those down periods in our life where just feel like we can’t make it. Those beliefs are ultimately what stop you from following your dreams.
In order to prevent that negativity from taking over, we have to identify the first step which is all the lies that we believe. Throughout our career, we’ve come to realize that there are 5 main lies that stop you from doing what you know you need to do because you are convinced that you’re not good enough.
We let these lies hold us back for far too long, and we want to stop them from hurting you and your career goals as well! Let’s talk about those 5 common lies and how you can ignore the f*ck out of them so you can do what you really want, which is following your dreams!
This is a common lie that people believe because our society has convinced us that the only way we can measure our education is through a piece of paper called a degree. We are here to tell you that the classroom setting can you only teach you so much about the real world. In order to truly understand the world and how it operates, you have to learn by doing. AND messing up. A LOT. That’s ok. The success is in the failure.
There are other requirements for success that don’t require extended degrees. It all depends on you and what you want to achieve in life. You are the one that determines your value. Having a degree is an incredible asset BUT it won’t determine how far you get in your career – only your experience will and action you take when opportunities are presented to you.
Not necessarily. When our founder Karina started her first consulting business it was with literally $75. She purchased a web domain, a WordPress template, hosting and an Etsy logo. $75 was a stretch for her back then when she was just making $550 at her 9-5. There are a variety of ways to expand your career without any money. The key is to get creative with your passions. You can monetize anything you truly love. If you love making flower arrangements, create an ebook and sell it to your friends and family so that they can also create their own arrangements.
Your career is going to need a lot of time and attention. Otherwise, it won’t grow. Nobody ever said following your dreams would be easy, but with a little hard work, it will all pay off! I PROMISE! You ever hear that quote by Karen Lamb that goes, “A year from now you may wish you had started today .”
Get yourself out there! Facebook groups, Twitter chats, Pinterest boards, and Instagram hashtags are just a few ways to get started with marketing yourself online. Research what you have to do to make these strategies work for your own career venture.
There’s that negativity creeping back up on your again. If starting a business has been on your heart, this is your confirmation to go for it. It can be scary trying something new for the first time. We’ve all been there! Every successful business owner had to start somewhere. And that somewhere was mostly like very, very small.
Educate yourself. You literally have every resource imaginable at your fingertips (assuming you have access to the internet and a computer). In fact, there are plenty of fellow business owners out there that love to educate up and coming entrepreneurs! You can connect with some of them inside of our free community here.
Yup, we got to call you out on this one. We hear this EVERYDAY from family and friends.
Let us ask you a question: how are you spending your time? Do you work full time and have kids to take care of? Most ambitious women do. It’s all about managing your time wisely and putting yourself first.
It all starts with you, babe. Your mental health, spiritual health, and physical health all play a part in how easy things flow to you. Including time.
Like we said previously, nobody ever said it was going to be easy. You might have to sacrifice some recreational activities. Maybe you’ll have to get up earlier in the morning or stay up later at night.
The best advice I can give you is get a planner, get a journal and TIME BLOCK.
Time blocking is life here at the HFD office. We realized how much time we were spending on task because we were distracted or trying to do 30 things at one time and then wonder every day how nothing truly got done. As a team we implemented a consistent time block calendar that keeps us on track all day long.
“My family and friends don’t support me. They just don’t get it.” And we totally understand. But guess what? There’s plenty of ambitious women out there that DO get it and want to help support you 100%!
Some of our best friends we have met through our online platforms.
There are hundreds of online communities that are waiting to welcome you with open arms. All you have to do is find them, introduce yourself, engage with others, and wait for the magic to happen!
We hope tackling these lies head-on will help you understand that they are all simply in your head. This is your ego and sometimes you have to tell that b*tch to chill out. They will only become a reality if you let them. Don’t let those negative thoughts prevent you from following your dreams! At the end of the day, the only thing stopping you is your own lack of action. So get up, make a game plan, and ready, set, go!
What is one thing you are going to implement today to get you one step closer to your goal?
This is a private community for ambitious modern women who want to curate the life of their dreams. If you’re looking for a supportive community of like-minded women who (just like you) want to do it all AND live their very best life then this community is the place to be!
